The University of St. Thomas women’s soccer coach Nikola Barjaktarevic was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director on April 11.
In a press release by the UST athletic department, Athletic Director Todd Smith said the department wanted someone who was committed to the University and already knew the environment.
“I’m excited but at the same time it is bittersweet and obviously sad, because to an extent it is a career change, too,” Barjaktarevic said. “It’s tough leaving the women’s soccer program and not being hands-on and involved in coaching.”
Barjaktarevic said he and Smith are in a national search for the new women’s soccer coach.
“Within the first 20 minutes of posting the job, we received seven applications,” Barjaktarevic said.
Barjaktarevic said his new duties include making sure all UST sports teams stay in compliance with the National Collegiate Athletic Association rules. In addition, he will oversee the men’s and women’s soccer programs and be in charge of the team’s game-day activities.
