McPherson to Leave UST

After 16 years at the University of St. Thomas, Dean of Students Lindsey McPherson is leaving.

McPherson said she has accepted a position as Dean of Students’ Success at Wharton County Junior College in Wharton, Texas.

Assistant Dean of Students Amanda Villanueva will be acting as interim Dean of Students.

McPherson said she had no intention of leaving UST. However, since Wharton is home to her, and the College rarely has job openings, she said she could not pass up the opportunity.

“It wasn’t anything I was looking for, or even sought after,” she said.

Her responsibilities at her new position will include enforcing student conduct, listening to student complaints and advising the Student Government, according to Villanueva.

“Plus this person is responsible to ensure the University is compliant with the various state and federal laws and regulations that concern students,” McPherson wrote in an email to the Independent.

McPherson said she has enjoyed all of her years at UST, during which she witnessed many changes to the University. When she started in 2003, for example, the lawn in front of Crooker was a student parking lot.

McPherson said she will always remember the bond she formed with UST students.

“They are very special, and will always hold a special place in my heart.”

The Independent would like to apologize for a mistake made in the previous publication of this article. Amanda Villanueva is only assistant dean of students and not director of campus life.
