Razer is known for its outlandish concepts — like the flashy RGB Project Hazel face mask — but this time, its Project Esther haptic cushion is actually becoming a reality. Introducing Freyja, Razer’s latest innovation, which the company claims is the world’s first HD haptics gaming cushion. While the market for such products may be niche, if any company is going to push the boundaries of gaming tech, it’s Razer.

Unlike past haptic experiments like the bulky Enki Pro HyperSense gaming chair, Freyja is far more practical. It’s a versatile cushion that can be placed over most chairs with a high back, whether they’re from Razer or not. It does require power, but Razer has simplified things with a single-cable setup and a quick-release connection, so you won’t risk pulling it out of place by accident.

Freyja features 16 individually activated haptic zones that respond based on in-game actions. For certain games, Razer promises native integrations, ensuring the haptic feedback is specifically tailored to the gameplay. For other titles, the cushion uses audio cues like sound direction and intensity to simulate haptics, creating an immersive experience. And if you own other Razer Sensa haptic devices, they’ll sync up to work together seamlessly.

While gaming is the main focus, the Freyja cushion works with any audio source, whether you’re watching a movie, listening to music, or streaming a live concert. The real question is how precise the haptics will be, especially when relying on audio alone. Razer’s previous Kraken HyperSense headset showed that not all media delivers consistent haptic feedback, so the experience may vary depending on the source material.

For those eager to try Freyja, it’s available for purchase now — if you’re willing to shell out the $300 price tag.

The announcement came during RazerCon, where Razer also revealed several other exciting products, including the Black Widow V4 Pro 75% Wireless keyboard, the Kraken V4 Pro headset, and its first-ever laptop cooling pad, which promises to reduce temperatures by up to 18%.
