The University of St. Thomas is offering a new “mini session” semester with nine different classes during the upcoming winter break
The mini session is scheduled for Dec. 19 – Jan. 16, overlapping slightly with the beginning of the 2021 spring semester, which starts Jan. 11.
Courses taken during the mini session will be part of the 2021 spring term enrollment, according to an email from the office of the registrar. Spring term financial aid can be applied to the mini session as long a student’s mini session and spring semester enrollment hours together do not exceed 18 credit hours.
Open enrollment for the mini session course begins Nov. 16 and ends Dec. 23.
The classes offered are Perspectives in World Literature, World Regional Geography, Energy and the Environment, American Federal Government, General Psychology, Human Growth and Development, Intro to Anthropology, Intro to the Sacred Scriptures, and Crit Praxis Virtual Engagement.
Sophomore nursing major Alexis Ramirez said he wished more courses were offered for the mini session.
“I was looking forward to actually taking a course to get my credits needed for my bachelor of science in nursing program,” Ramirez said. “Like, even all philosophies would be great.”
Meanwhile, freshman education major McKenna Malzahn is looking forward to taking one of the required courses for her major, American Federal Government, during the mini session.
“I am kinda nervous about it since this will be my first ever, but I think I will be okay since I’m handling five classes right now,” Malzahn said.
To learn more about the courses offered during the mini session, students can log in to their MyStThom account and select the “Search for Classes” tile. Then, select “Spring 2021,” and under “Advanced Search Criteria,” click “Mini Session.”
