X has officially joined the streaming battle—or at least, it’s trying. Owner Elon Musk announced that the X TV app, teased earlier this year, is now available for select Amazon Fire TVs, Google TVs, and some LG panels. But if your device doesn’t make the cut, don’t worry—you’re not missing much.
The teaser video for the beta app shows a generic streaming interface, complete with rows of videos featuring X’s small collection of original content. This includes shows from figures like conservative commentator Tucker Carlson, and accounts for Musk’s other ventures, SpaceX and Tesla. However, the app’s actual interface, especially the Amazon Fire TV version, is a far cry from the polished experience seen in the teaser—offering even less content than expected.
At its core, the X TV app is a stripped-down video platform that simply repackages videos already available on the X app. Users need an X account to log in, and once inside, they’re greeted by a curated selection of videos. However, these recommendations are less than appealing unless you share the political leanings of Musk.
Using a test account with minimal activity, the app suggested videos like Megyn Kelly accusing Minnesota Governor Tim Walz of “stolen valor,” a segment from right-wing influencer Andy Ngo, and a Tucker Carlson interview that paints Winston Churchill as the villain of World War II. The content library reflects the platform’s increasingly conservative user base—far from the politically diverse mix X was known for in earlier years. While this might delight Musk’s supporters, the app itself remains disappointingly bare compared to competitors like Rumble.
X’s attempts to attract high-profile talent haven’t gone smoothly, either. While Khloé Kardashian inked a deal to produce a video podcast on the platform, Musk’s mismanagement of Don Lemon’s show launch led to a legal battle. Other notable figures involved include the WWE, sports commentator Jim Rome, and Tulsi Gabbard—Carlson’s ally and a controversial figure in her own right.
If you’re still curious, Musk recently tweeted that X TV “will soon be available on all home TV screens.” Although vague, this suggests wider availability in the near future. For now, however, only a limited selection of devices supports the app.
