Ultimate Ears (UE) is expanding its Bluetooth speaker lineup with its smallest offering yet: the $80 UE Miniroll. Available in four colors (black, blue, gray, and pink), this portable speaker hits the market on September 9, exclusively on ultimateears.com.

Weighing just 9.8 ounces and measuring a little over 4 inches in diameter, the Miniroll stands out from other UE speakers like the Wonderboom and Everboom with its integrated silicone strap. Inspired by Marshall’s $120 Willen II speaker, this strap allows you to attach the Miniroll to your clothing, backpack, or even bike handlebars. It’s designed to fit tubular shapes from 20mm to 35mm in diameter. However, unlike the Willen II, the Miniroll lacks a built-in microphone, so it can’t be used for phone calls.

Despite its small size, the Miniroll packs a punch. Inside, there’s a 45.6mm driver paired with a 37.75mm by 65mm passive radiator that delivers impressive bass. After testing an evaluation model, I was surprised by the powerful and expansive sound this tiny speaker produces. It manages to sound clear and rich, avoiding the tinny quality that often plagues compact speakers.

One of the Miniroll’s standout features is its PartyUp mode, powered by Bluetooth Auracast. This mode allows you to connect an unlimited number of Miniroll speakers, as long as they’re within the 131-foot Bluetooth range. Unfortunately, PartyUp is only compatible with other Minirolls, and its private Auracast broadcast won’t work with other Auracast-enabled devices like headphones or speakers.

The Miniroll charges via USB-C, taking about three hours to fully charge, and offers up to 12 hours of playtime. However, a USB-C cable isn’t included, so you’ll need to supply your own.

Durability is another strong point for the Miniroll. It boasts an IP67 rating for water and dust protection and is drop-proof up to about four feet. Just keep it out of the pool—it can survive submersion but won’t float like the Wonderboom.

For eco-conscious buyers, UE has made sustainability a priority with the Miniroll, using 100% post-consumer recycled polyester fabric and at least 40% recycled plastic in its construction.
