UST Announces Early Closure Amid Arctic Freeze

On Thursday, Feb. 3, UST sent out correspondence regarding cancelling classes after 4 p.m due to icy weather conditions. This comes after a winter weather advisory that was issued from the National Weather Service.

The email also read that all classes on Friday, Feb. 4 will be online. All faculty is required to work remotely from home.

The National Weather Service is predicting one tenth of an inch of ice accumulation and encouraging wearing appropriate clothing. “Slow down and use caution while traveling,” the advisory reads, “Prepare for possible power outage.”

During last year’s freeze that also took place in February, much of Texas lost power including most parts of Montrose and surrounding areas. This also led to a lot of property damage from burst pipes and other freeze related incidents.Read more about preparing for this winter storm here.
